Some women bleed during pregnancy, but it is not actually a period (even though it might seem to be). By definition, menstrual bleeding occurs because the uterine lining needs to be shed in the absence of a fertilized egg; bleeding during pregnancy is therefore not a period, as it is not a shedding of the lining in the absence of a pregnancy (and, in fact, isn't a shedding of the lining at all).

Bleeding during pregnancy isn't uncommon, but it's more typical to have spotting than out and out bleeding, and more common to see "brown blood" (which is old blood, basically) than it is to see red blood. If you are experiencing any bleeding at all you should call your doctor, particularly if the bleeding is heavy, red, or accompanied by cramping or lower back pain. It may be nothing at all to be concerned about, but bleeding -- particularly if it's red, heavy, or accompanied by pain -- can be a sign of miscarriage. Your doctor may want to perform an ultrasound to confirm a uterine pregnancy, take a look at the sac, etc., and confirm healthy cardiac activity.

Best of luck to you.

It is always advised to call your doctor when you have any spotting/bleeding. According to www.babycenter.com a true period will not happen during pregnancy.

yes same thing happened to me, and i am in my 39th week, expecting the little one any day. It is called brake through bleeding
For some women this is normal, as long as you don't have cramping and clots you should be fine.
Blessings!
