This week I've seen someone think North Americans Obsess over the Death of Anna Nicole Smith. I've seen another who seems convinced North America has stolen Iraqi oil despite the steeply rising gasoline and oil prices. I even saw a guy who asked if George Bush was going to be tried as a war criminal after his presidency.
Where do you guys get this stuff? Are some of you people really all that ignorant to think that the programs we put on TV have a 100% face value? I'm glad we know our news shows reflect heavy opinions, because I think the rest of the world does not realize that. I would love to know how many of you people who make these really general associations, have atleast one North American friend? How many have been here before and actually talked to an American?
Before you people ask another ignorant question, I ask you take some time and try google. For example, before you accuse North Americans of stealing Iraqi oil, why not try to find the numbers that prove it?

I just wanted to add in response to my first three responders...
You never answered the question.
For Miss Sez, I agree. I don't think all people outside North America are that dense. I have quite a few friends overseas myself, but you never see them act so ignorantly of North Americans because they know someone here. My good friend Jack, a Belgian, would even sarcastically say, "People from North America created the peace corps and red cross out of ignorance and because they are oblivious of other people in the world."

For the most part, our media is "free" to put on what they want. Outside of North America, media is controlled by the" powers to be". The people have been so ingrained to believe what ever they are told, therefore when they see our media they believe everything.

I object to such a biased opinion. Some North Americans ( I'm not saying all of them) are also ignorant about the rest of the world, and have stereotyped conceptions about other nations. I 'm a foreigner from South-East who married a North American, and I have a hard time explaining things to my parents-in-laws. I guess, it's to be blamed on all the old-fashioned books they keep reading, so I don't agree that reading enrich knowledge in the right ways all the time!
One example, I was talking about my aunty who works for a certain Bahrain royal family, and how she trots all over the globe with their entourage. It seems they listened to me in disbelief, bcoz they thought that rich people are only Americans. Later, my mother-in-law ran to me telling me that now she understood my story, bcoz she googled the Kingdom of Bahrain, and she learnt that it is one of the richest Arab countries in the Persian Gulf!
I know that maybe this info might not justify my objection, but it still goes to show that ignorance is everywhere, even in the First World Nations...

AMEN!!! i feel EXACTLY the same way, some people are SO ignorant! many Americans don't give a flying flip about anna nicole or other celebrities, but the media does tremendously, many people outside North America don't realize these things, they just watch the liberal media and think thats all we watch and know

People not from North America are always saying us Americans (North) are controlled by our media yet, it seems most of them are controlled by THEIR media and believe everything that comes across their television, in their papers, on their radios etc., especially the countries with state controlled medias.
It seems that it's usually the the third world countries that have the highest percentage of state run media, why is that?

People around the world think that, because of how the media portrays all to suit their needs, and what people consider credible news (It's stupid , idiotic, small minded and not intelligent at all to stipulate without knowing all the facts).....BUT In today's society finding out the truth could be a lot harder than believing a lie.
