With all the research that has been done into foods and fats, how can you not expect that fast foods, and especially heavily fried french fries could shorten one's life. Especially after reading something like the South Beach Diet where it talks about how bad Trans Fats are for you, and how they effect your heart, these are the worst things for you to eat. All of these things are going to clog your arteries which lead to heart problems. The more good fats you eat, like olive oil or canola oil, neither of which are used in fast foods the better you are. So, eating french fries are like a nail in your coffin. The City of New York has been talking about putting up signs in fast food restaurants indicating the calorie count and the trans fats in all the foods. These signs are to be displayed where all people can not be missed, so people can not fool themselves about how many calories they are really getting. In one big burger with fries and a coke you are getting more calories in one meal then you should have in one day.

Well, if you look from a health perspective, it's true.

Fast food like burgers, deep fried food and soft drinks, contain a high percentage of carbohydrate and fat. So when anyone consume lots of this kinda rich foods regularly without exercising and a balanced diet, he risks a higher chance of getting heart diseases and high blood pressure, which may cost him his life anytime.

As for french fries, due to the high heat used to deep fry the potatoes, the end result of the potatoes is that it becomes carcinogenic. So regular consumption of french fries also increase the risk of one getting cancer. Of course, the high fat and carbohydrate content of french fries also increases the risk of heart related diseases and obesity.

So in this perspective, fast food can shorten our lives. But the key is to eat them in moderation, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. If so, I don't think eating fast food would cause such a big issue, such as an early death.

Hope this helps!

True, especially on the fries.
There was a study showing French Fries contain extremely high amounts of cancer causing carcinogens. So go with that side salad or baked potato when you can.

Junk food aka fast food is a slang word for foods with limited nutritional value. Every person has their own list of foods that they call junk foods. I would include foods that are high in salt, sugar, fat or calories and low nutrient content.

Salted snack foods, candy, gum, most sweet desserts, fried fast food and carbonated beverages are some of the major junk foods. Generally, they offer little in terms of protein, vitamins or minerals and lots of calories from sugar or fat. The term "empty calories" reflects the lack of nutrients.

Rather than taking a radical approach and banning all but the simplest foods, judge each food based on the list of ingredients and Nutrition Facts label found on packages. When reading the list of ingredients, look for sugar, fat or salt as one of the first three ingredients. If any of these are listed that high in the ingredients, you can probably consider that food to be too high in sugar, fat or salt.

If you want to cut down on junk food, cut down your intake of salt, sugar, fat and refined foods. Choose your calories by the nutrient company they keep.

Its not that junk are going to reduce your lifespan, but in the long run a person who takes junk food can experience multiple health problems, including organs failure.

Doctors have found a link to breast cancer in woman if they ate french fries an average of twice a week during childhood! When potatoes are fried it changes some of their compounds into carcinogenic waste that is stored in the fatty tissue in breast fat!

It's probably true, because fast food is so fattening. It's just too greasy and fatty and you don't get the necessary nutrients from fast food. So, I would stay away from fast food as much as possible if you want to live longer.

It's loaded with fat, calories, and cholesterol. Eating too much of it on a daily basis can lead too all kinds of health problems, like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Fast food is okay if you eat it in moderation but if you eat it every day it will not only make you fat but possibly kill you.
