I've been feeling sort of isolated lately and I want to make new friends. The problem is that it takes a lot for me to trust someone, due to problems I had with my "friends" in the past. And some of my friends I do have now, I feel like I can't really relate to them because I am married and they are not, and our lives are very different. How can I make new friends who have the same interests as me?

I found the best way to make really good friends and get to know good people is to volunteer your time at a place that makes you feel good and that you enjoy very much. For example if you love children, volunteer at a school and enjoy and meet good people. I had the same problem so I volunteered to go for free training and answer the crisis line for the sexual assault centre in my area. I have met some really wonderful people and I enjoy it very much. Take care Heather

i know the feeling regarding trusting and friends. However, your "friends" been married or not should make no difference. The alternative is to join a wifes only club, or do you want to meet married men to be friends with?

Find a good church with an active Sunday school class with your age group. Also, if you have kids, get involved in sports or scouting. We recently moved and have found new friends through church and our kids activities. The weekly activities give you a chance to build your friendships over time and get to know people.

Hey guess what, you and me are friends. You don't have to do anything special, just be yourself. I guess just send me some mail and I will respond to whatever is on your mind. Yeah, I'm usually lonely myself.

Look at people's answers here in YA. Find someone who's answers would match yours, or you think might be someone you'd like to know.

Email or IM them. It worked for me.
