I really loved it, however, it was noticeably different from older Final Fantasy's, but if you can get over the lack of a world map, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. The story was strong, the combat was fun, the inclusion of a very large mini-game (blitzball) was also there, so many of the key points of a Final Fantasy transferred to their 1st jump to the Playstation 2. The leveling system was a bit different though. Rather than merely "gain this much XP and your character's stats get better" it offered a bit more customization, as once your character got the XP to level, you got to pick which stats to customize by use of a grid that you fill in, where each stone (which you collect separately) that you place represents the learning of a spell, growth of a stat, mastery of a skill, etc. etc.
So based on that, if you've never played a Final Fantasy game, X is a fine place to start, despite the fact that it was a bit of a change in the mold of the series. I would recommend however that you familiarize yourself with the series a bit more (possibly play through VII and/or IX) before moving on to X-2 or XII, which are not quite the same as the "traditional" Final Fantasy games since they've been trying to move away from that more recently it seems.

That's the same one i started out with. The sequel is cool too. Well, actually i got X-2 first but had no idea what was going on, so i bought X to see how it all began. Made a lot more sense. lol. FFX has a great story line and it's a pretty straight forward game. You can't really get lost or not know where to go. It also has beautiful music and nice graphics. Hope ya like it!

I think that FFX would be an okay game to start with but each game does have a different story line. I think though that the best Final Fantasy game was FFVIII. It had an awesome story that includes: romance, action, characters grow, etc. You should really check into this game. The characters are tight. FFVII is good but I still say FFVII is the best because the characters have more of a personality and there is some comedy mixed in with what they say to others. Good luck.

That's probably a good one to go with. The thing is that most of the FF games don't continue to follow a similar storyline, so you can pretty much start playing with any of them and not miss anything by not having played the previous ones, unless you started with FFX-2 or something. Previous FF games like FFVII were great, but they have very outdated graphics now, and you probablty wouldn't enjoy them as much today as you could have in the past. Also, as I mentioned, you wouldn't gain anything in the storyline from having played FFXII, FFXIII, or FFIX, for example.

I know one guy said that VII has bad graphics. I know that, but FFVII has two sequels, Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children. Dirge is pretty good.
