Ok, run the software. Either the included CD-Rom or download the software from nintendo's website.

When it prompts you to do so, plug the WiFi connector into a usb port on your computer, directly into the computer, and not into a hub.

Then turn on your wii

from the wii menu, click on the round wii icon in the bottom corner.

Then select the wii settings menu.

Then selcet the internet option.

select the set-up connections option

Select the "connect to nintendo wifi usb adapter" option

Your wii console will start to search for the connector

Once it finds the connector, go to your computer and grant permission.

The wii will then test the connection, and ask if you'd like to perform a system update.

If you haven't been connected in the past, then an update will be mandatory.

You should most definitely get a wireless router. If you only get the WiFi connector, your PC must be running the whole time. This wastes a lot of energy and will cost you an arm and a leg, considering, that a standard PC will consume about 120-160 Watts, and a router will only use about 6-20 Watts.
Furthermore its more easy to set up.
