i hate it when people try to tell me to get a second opinion my 2 children have seen this doc all there lives (4 years) and they are compleatly healthy... plus my daughter was on cereal early and nothing is wrong with her...if you want to say something that goes against my doc, go to medical school do the research they do, then get back to me.

people need to stick to the question, he does not always eat, and not only do myself, his sister and his father, play with him all the time i have a huge family, when he eats its because he is HUNGRY, not bored.

I can't believe his doctor put him on cereal at 10 weeks old. The earliest that usually recommended is 4 months, until a baby is at least 4 months old, his system lacks certain digestive enzymes, such as an enzyme called amylase, needed for digesting starches or complex carbohydrates. And even then that can be to early as rice cereals have a lot of iron (which can cause constipation), a lot of preservatives (which infants cannot filter out from their bodies very well because their livers and kidneys do not function well yet.) and because aside from the few fortified vitamins, rice cereal is pretty inadequate nutrition.
You definitely cannot only feed your son rice cereal and nothing else as he will not be receiving the fat and vitamins he needs to grow properly. I would try putting away the rice cereal all together and spend some time trying to get your infant to take the bottle again, perhaps try a different brand. And change your pediatrician,, get a second professional opinion and see what a different one can do for help.
I went to the best private college in the state and one of the top 3 in the nation for what I was majoring in and I saw students who litteraly slept in class and still passed because a lot of colleges are mostly concerened with the money now a days. If to many people are failing they don't get the enrollment. If you think your doctor is perfect jsut because him mommy and daddy paid his way through college you are sadly mistaken. Its not uncommon for one doctor to give bad advise, they are people and sometimes stuck in their own ways. Go try a different one who can help your baby get on a normal and healthy feeding schedule.

Your doctor is following some very old and outdated feeding recommendations, which have been proven unhealthy for at least the past two decades. :( Babies' tummies are not able/ready to digest solids correctly until sometime during the middle of the first year. Some babies are fine starting from about 4 months, at the very earliest, but even the AAP recommends waiting until 6 months old. Many babies aren't even ready for them then. Your son throwing up indicates IMO that his tummy isn't handling the cereal well; if his tummy is hurting while trying to digest the cereal, it could be making him too uncomfortable to add milk on top of that. It's difficult for most adults to eat when they have a stomachache, too-- even if I feel hungry, I know I can't eat if my stomach is hurting. I can image how it must be for babies.
It sounds like your son is gaining beautifully. Babies eat as much as their bodies require for the amazing growth they experience during infancy. It's very difficult to overfeed them, as they won't usually allow anything to pass their lips when they are full, or just won't suckle if they happen to not mind the bottle nipple being there. You may have one of those babies that will have those adorable pudgy cheeks & thighs that parents love to squeeze & tickle. That doesn't mean he will be obese later in life, but feeding him the extra *calories* by adding cereal too early could affect that.
I suggest getting another opinion on whether feeding cereal is appropriate at your son's age. That first doc gave you some very bad advice, IMO. Good luck!

At 10 wks if you start feeding that baby cereal you won't be able to fill him up later. You are setting him up to be severely obese before he even hits kindergarten. I agree to try giving him juice. And water. and if he is having trouble sleeping then it may be that he is having digestive problems.
My mom always wanted to feed my twins at the slightest bit of fussiness. When all they needed was to have someone play with them. Stimulate him in some other fashion so that he is not so focused on food. Play with the baby instead of feeding him. He is bored. They need to be distracted from the boredom from time to time. Set a schedule and stick with it. Don't let him eat ALL the time.
If you don't want a second opinion then why are you asking us?

What dr would say to give a baby under 4 months cereal???? A baby that age is not physically mature enough to properly digest cereal. He is more likely going to have digestive issues and allergies because of this. I would get a second opinion!

You didn't say how much cereal you were giving him. Maybe giving him abit less, he may then take to the bottle. He's already full from the cereal that's why he wants nothing to do with his bottle. Good luck. Be patient.

Ok same here with my 5 month old She does not take reg. bottles. I say dont give it to him. We cant force them to take it so if I were you Id substitute milk for water or juice. Thats what I did and we are doing fine now. She drinks one bottle of baby juice a day or 4 oz of water. Try it Good luck! The juice is good for them and also cuts that appetite!!!:)

don't make the bottle so thick. thin it out.
you may also want to try baby food it wont hurt the baby. try small amounts. the baby will spit it out but keep trying. add water into his/her diet. i don't care what the doctor says. I'm a mother of twins (15) and a 7 month old baby and they are perfectly fine. infact the twins got table food very early because i was living at home (mom is from the south).
