How is this determined? I would assume that the mechanic shops/dealerships would go by the same book to give estimates. Is this correct?

it is determine by a group of specialists. they determine how long the job takes. once they agree,all labor times are the same in the book or computer. this will cut down guessing cost. the average headgaskets for Suburu is 10.2 hours

yes thats correct i think its like 10-15 hours for a head gasket
