I think maybe the smaller laptop is easier to hold in your lap and stuff, but is the screen too small?

I am thinking that if I went with something bigger it will just be too awkward to hold comfortably.

by the way, I am not taking it anywhere.

Well, I've got a 15.4 widescreen and it sits in my lap quite nicely.

It's all a preference thing to be honest, and what you'll be using the machine for. 14 is fine just for web browsing, but you'll want a > 15 if you want to watch films or game.

I currently have both a 14" and a 15.4" both are widescreen . the 14 is a bit smaller made my traveling little easier. I have even watched dvds on it. the widescreen helps with that. Just recently bought a new laptop with the 15.4" widescreen and it actully is easier on me, comparing it back to a 14 not got all the starin focusing into the smaller screen size where the 15.4 is bit wider bigger screen when watching a dvd /playing a game etc.. its fully in your view. for as portability its not enuff difference to notice, And if you said you werent taking it anywhere id go with 15.4" its still comfortble and the 15.4" screen is nice.

Small laptops are not very upgradable. They are small therefore theres no good video card made for them so kiss your gaming habit good bye if you dont have a desktop or bigger laptop. One of the reasons why they dont make good video cards to fit in small laptops is that they dont have a good cooling system, making them overheat easy.
