First, soak in water for a few days. This will almost always take the paper off, and dissolve any water-soluble glue.
If the glue isn't water-soluble, then wipe with nail-polish remover (acetone).

Hot water may work, but it will take longer.
If you soak 'em in gas, they'll come right off
but be sure to clean them well.
I find that the most efficient way of doing
it is to put them in gas VAPORS (that is
put gas in a container and then somehow
suspend them in the container - I just put
a little throw away jar on the bottom and
then put the stuff on top of the jar inside
the big jar with a little gasoline on the bottom.
In fact, I keep around a container with
a little gas in the bottom and a tiny jar in
the bottom for just such circumstances.
I put the jar that I am removing the label
from in for a day and then remove it and
peel the label right off. I can as many
containers in as will fit and reuse the
gasoline in the bottom for many many
days (months) until there is no more
vapor.
Note, however, that peeling the labels
off doesn't get rid of all of the glue. If
you want to get rid of all of the glue,
you'll actually need to soak the thing
in gas and inspect it afterwards.

The easiest way is to put it in the dishwasher. Call and ask a repair guy and they will tell you they love you to do this. The problem is that the paper gets stuck in the drain system and they need to come and take it all apart to clean it out... at some $50 an hour. NEVER use the dishwasher. Get a bucket of water and put them in it until the labels fall off.

Soak jars in warm soapy water for about two hours, then take a plastic card (ID / library card) and scrape the wet paper and glue off of the jar. Then you will want to spray something on the jar to get the leftover glue off...such as Goo Gone (or I use kitchen spray or windex). Next wash in the dish washer or sink.

the best by far is boil the kettle and pour into the jar´s the label will come of almost straight away . or with a normal lighter just pass the flame over the label , but this take´s time . But if you have time to waste then that´s what you do

Soak them (the entire jar) overnight in water. Labels will then come off easily. If you can stand the smell of chinese medicated oils, like the White Flower oil or Kwan Loong Medicated oil, they can do the job as well.

soak in hot water, as everyone else said, then follow up with some of that Goo Gone stuff, which is essentially orange oil. That stuff works great at removing the gum and glue.

soak the glasses in hot soapy water. The get a green scourer and scrub. To finish you can throw them in the diswasher to make sure all the glue bits are off.

Scrape it off with a sharp knife or a razor blade. Then remove any remaining bits with finger nail polish remover. Very safe this way and you don't have to soak it in water.

If you don't mind ruining the label you could soak it in warm water for a while. Sometimes it doesn't even ruin the label and you can save it.
