Hi, i agree the sony vaio is to expensive , you can shop dell and find a descent price but not all the specs you really want or need.
Hp: descent machine.
Acer: Personally i have fond acer to expensive, will be low cost but when you start comparing the specs. and has only 256 mb ram etc.. Do you have a best buy store near by? if not go online to www.bestbuy.com they usually carry Sony,HP,Acer, gateway, Fuigitsu,Compaq, Averatec. etc.. AT best buy you usually get the lowest price guarnteed and they do offer price match. I am a big fan of Gateway laptops , I just bought a new gateway at best buy for - 800$ 1gb ram, amdturion 64 processor, 100gb hdrive. etc. nice machine, for college you will probably need a office program for microsft word, excel etc..this can make the price go up.. personally i wouldnt purchase it with the office software, usually will come with 60 day trial, and i can get you microsft office 2003 . for nothing. hope this info was helpful. need any adidtionl info email me. i will send u the details for the office program if you need.

I purchase a lot of laptops for our instructors at work, and have used both dell and hp, go with the HP. We have much less trouble with them, and you can get a good price online or even in a Sam's Club store. Sam's club will sell you a nice extended warranty for a reasonable price too - - if that is something you want.
Good Luck - - enjoy college!

Dell can set you up with an excellent laptop. They have a 20% off $999 laptop coupon at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html where you can get a $1k laptop for about $800. If that is above your price range, some more modest ones can be found starting at $600.
Good Luck.

Dell is your best bet. Go to yahoo and search for "dell coupon", they have a 20% discount coupon out every 3 or 4 days for the Inspiron laptops.

the greater powerful question is why you will have to play FFXIV while each overview has mentioned that that's an completely terrible activity. That being mentioned, consistent with hazard you need to define "lifelike". in case you opt to play video games nicely, be waiting to spend on the threshold of $one thousand on a pc.
