The light is refracted by the water (entering the raindrop) gets reflected (back of the raindrop) and is refracted again leaving the raindrop..

Good question. When this happens, when you see a rainbow, you are standing between the Sun and the rainbow, with rain between you and the rainbow. The sunlight comes from behind your back and is reflected from the drops of rain in the direction of the rainbow and back to your eyes. The rain drops separate the white light of the Sun into its separate colors violet through orange and red. Check this out the next time you see a rainbow. Look to see where you are, where the sun is, and where the rainbow is. Ok?

I think some people are getting a little confused here.what happens it's basic Physics and Light Theory. The sunlight enters the raindrops and as it does so is refracted ( split into its constituent colours)because it hits them at a slight angle but it will now hit the back of the raindrop at a squarer angle and so is internally reflected.It then leaves the raindrop and is refracted a bit more.The rainbow you see is the refracted colours leaving the raindrops.
If you do some maths and trigonometry you can show it is possible for some of the light to be totally internally reflected twice before leaving the drop.This is why you can sometimes see a weaker secondary rainbow above the bright one.
If someone says they have seen a third rainbow they are lying, it is not mathematically possible.

after the rain has fallen,there is lot of moisture in the air.As the sunlight falls on it,the light gets seperated into its constituent colours(Spectrum)which appears as a colourful rainbow in the sky
