An average cycle is 28 days. The cycle BEGINS the day you begin bleeding (day 1). By day 14, you should begin ovulating. Does that make any sense? If you track your period and you are regular you can get about a three day window or so when you are ovulating.

I highly recommend "Taking charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It will tell you how to know exactly when you're ovulating regardless of how irregular your cycles are, or stress etc. You can tell you're about to ovulate by your cervical fluid, which will become clear and stretchy like egg whites. You can tell you have ovulated by your basal temperature going up by at least .2 degrees for at the very least 3 days, should stay up for around 12 though. The book will give you very detailed info on how to track everything and how to interpret it. Not everyone ovulates on day 14, so you can't always plan correctly without charting. Good luck.

I believe that it is twelve to fourteen days after the day you start your period. So start counting the day after you start your period and about 12-14 days after, you should be ovulating (given that you have normal cycles- that you start your period every 28 days or so). Also during those few days, you should have a low grade fever when you are ovulating.

Actually it varies from person to person. The best thing to do is to chart your temps and have them evaluated by your OB/GYN. www.fertilityfriend.com is a great website for trying to conceive. Good luck!
