My husband has left me due to links leading to sites and they are not me. I believe we have a worm or virus that is duplicating every darn keystroke made! Home XP network is weird too cause neither one of us set one up! Or am I being stupid...not really good at file extensions or notepad stuff..the links have been visited hundreds of times..What could be going on? Or am I being played? I am devasted cause now HE HAS A site (of course just to spite me) and wants a divorce! Can any one help? Lastly, sadly, is it possible He could have made those sites himself? Lots of strange temp file and ads photos and dll /java/tiff/dat stuff ? Does that make any technical sense? Please help

Actually the thing I am talking about is a worm called WIFE32? It was on a scan I ran. It says it duplicates things over and over and takes a long time to show up. And yes, I am sure the pictures arent me, but I suppose I should be flattered in some way he thinks I look that good. And I do feel a bit mental right now, but lots of people go on business trips crazy I know... Thanks for listening! i will run a software to see. any recommendations?

Hope I have understood your question and are about to answer it correctly. Firstly, I am deeply sorry for you that your hubby has left for this small reason without hearing you.

First of all ensure that your PC is not on a Local Area Network (LAN) with your hard disks being shared by multiple users. If that is the case it may mean that someone else has put their stuff on your computer.

Secondly also ensure that your PC is not being used to host any hostile website (if that is the case most probably you can contact your Internet service provider for support) and if you are absolutely not sure what do to, simply unplug your PC from any network until your problem is solved. For example, it is possible to put some files on your PC using RATs (Remote Administration Tools)

Third, ensure that there is no Trojan or any other malware on your PC. You may use an anti-virus software together with anti-spyware software (many are avaialble - besting being Spybot Search and Destroy and Microsoft's Windows Defender).

Fourth, it may be your hubby and now he wants to get rid of you or something...

Lastly, if you detect something hostile or any Trojan or spyware don't delete it, wait until your husband sees it that whatever you are carrying in your PC doesn't belong to you. Hope he understands that and also that you are not involved.

I guess you aren't involved and now all I can do is to wish you some real good luck. Hope that helps!

Wait a second. Based in this and your other posts, are you seriously asking us to believe that you have virus that:

1) Somehow created a website with pornographic images that "happen" to look like you?
2) This same virus also posts blogs that just "happen" to describe events in your own life currently?

Get real - either your are a mental case and don't remeber doing it yourself, or he did it to spite you.

Sorry I sounded so harsh - that was a bit insensitive. Re-reading this and other posts, I did miss some crucial points you made.

Aside from the scans mentioned below, here are a few additional steps you can take:

If you have a home network installed or if you are running a wirelsss network in the house, clamp it down. For computers that are wired into a router, password protect them and make sure you are aware of who is logged into them at all times.

Second, if you are running a wireless network, then you ABOSULTELY MUST secure it. There are a bunch of steps you can take to secure it including:

Turn of broadcasting of SSID
Enable WEP
Use MAC filtering

All of these can be done by logging directly into the router and setting it up there. Post a different question for that, including what brand/model raouter you have.

As to the site itself.

If it is a name like www..com that you want to find out about, you can go to a place like GoDaddy and look up the address - it will tell you who is on record as the domain owner.
http://who.godaddy.com/WhoIsCheck.aspx?prog_idgodaddy

If it is something like a myspace page, then that will be a bit more difficult. (http://www.myspace.com/)

That lookup on GoDaddy will provide you with the owner of the primary domain, including contact info. In the case of a MySpace page, report it and write to them.
