Yes, the bird flu has reached Russia. It will get to the US eventually, especially since it can be carried by wild birds.
If this happens, we may expect a rise in poultry prices.
The bird flu can be transmitted to humans who handle a lot of bird waste, but not from human to human. It has a high mortality rate in humans, though.
If it mutates and becomes able to pass from human to human, it could be very dangerous. It takes months to develop a vaccine against a new strain of flu.
There is no reason to panic, however. They have already developed a vaccine against the current form of the virus. This would provide at least crossover immunity to the mutated form (if/when it appears). It might not prevent the illness entirely, but would at least reduce its severity, until they can develop the proper vaccine.
