Got a question: Ok,my friend just found out she's pregnant and she's got a lil belly and all-doc said probably around 5-6wks (at least) but when they did the ultrasound they only saw the sack. why would that be? how far along would she be? (btw-she looks about 3months to me)

5 weeks sounds about accurate, she could be bloated or constipated, that would make her look a little bigger, its normal.

If the doc said 5-6 weeks, then that's what she is. They only saw a sac because that's what the US picked up. Most don't show until they are about 3 months +. If she's been gaining weight, that would account for the lil belly, unless she is very tiny, then I could see her showing a bit already. Congrats to your friend!

A sac is all you see at 5-6 weeks, things in there are still very small. If you think she's already getting a belly it could be that she's gaining weight, but odds are it is not due to the baby. It's not impossible to "show" at that stage, but highly unlikely, and you guys sound very young, so my theory is this is her first pregnancy and she'll probably not start showing for several months. Don't stress, a sac is a good sign of a healthy pregnancy at her stage.

If there is only a "sac", the doctor is correct and she is about 4-6 weeks along...for about the first two weeks that the doctor counts you are actually not pregnant, it goes from the date of your last period. And it may be just bloating or overeating, she is not gaining "baby" weight yet. She will not start to show/gain baby weight until she is about 4-5 months along.

depends on the quality of the scan machine. at 5 weeks some crappy scan machines only see the sac, it is normal. the good scan machines you can actually see a little white thing inside of the sac.
most woman are bloated during pregnancy, therefore tummy looks bigger.

a sack would be about all you would be able to see at 5-6 weeks. tell her to stop eating. she's not showing because of the baby. that's from eating too much.

she must only be about 3 weeks if all they could see was the sac
