i've bought command and conquer the first decade and i've installed it.
open the game, i have sound but no picture.

i think i need to say that i don't have a graphics card.
but i have red alert 2 before and i played it, but now i can't even play red alert 2
i just said this so you don't think it's because i don't have graphics card.
i think i also need to say that the CD i bought is second hand.

what should i do?

i also have one more question:

what is the latest version of directX?
9 or 10?

Latest version of Direct X is version 9.

As for Command and Conquer, have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Several things worth checking include your Windows screen settings (refresh rate, resolution etc) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

You might not have a powerful graphics card, but you obviously have one somewhere otherwise you would not have anywhere to plug your monitor into! Chances are you have an onboard graphics card (one built into the motherboard), which are generally quite weak for gaming.

Find out what graphics card you have by right clicking on My Computer and choosing properties. On the hardware tab click on "Device Manager" and then select Display Adapters. It will display the item currently used for the screen. Failing that, it will be under "Other devices" as a video controller, meaning that a driver is probably not installed correctly. If thats the case, do an auto-hardware detect to resolve that issue.

Hope it helps
