1. Find a bank that doesnt use it. Which there are hardly any that dont.
2. Wait the 7 years that it stays on your history & start over.
3. pay what you owe & hope that other banks will still take you. Even if you pay it, they are under no obligation to give you an account.

If you dont owe Bank Of America any money and your Chex Systems entry is more than either one year or 3 years old they will open an account for you.

First..there is no such thing as a secured checking account...sorry. Second..you are confusing a credit report
bad debt time with a chex systems record..which is 5 years..not 7.

Well..if I were you..I would go to a small local bank..explain your situation with them..be honest..upfront..and see if they won't let you open a savings account first. Some will..and if manage it properly..they will let you open a checking account after a certain period of time.

I was lucky..in that regard. I already had two netbank accounts when my serious credit/checking disaster happened..so I at least had the netbank accounts until the 5 years ran out.

Is it just one record? Perhaps you could negotiate for a record removal...certainly doesn't hurt to ask.

Open a secured account. It may be cheaper to pay the other bank what you owe them.
