Answering your question, this person is not using the same number, is just a matter of information that has no been updated.

That person used that number long time ago and that's the number the collection agencies has today. And since that person is not going to pay or update his record, the collection agencies will keep calling to the number he gave them hoping to get their money back.

No matter what you say they are not going to believe you, and even if they believe you they are just minimum wage telephone slaves who don't care about your personal problems.

So the only to way make them stop is to wait for this person to pay his debts, which is very unlikely, or to change the number. Other than that all you can do is ignore them.

Unfortunately when some say they're not the same person as the former telephone number owner, collection agencies are going to question the "honesty" of such a statement despite the fact that this person is NOT you.

You can either continue to inform these agencies that you are a different possessor of the number used formerly, with a contract showing the date you originally got the number, or inform your telephone company of the problem and request a new number!

Best wishes!

As a former law enforcement officer who has dealt with this type of problem before, my advice is to get a new number. The phone company cares little for your problems and really doesn't want ot deal with it. Better to get a new number and save yourself the headaches of trying to get them to help you.

change your number. that's all i can think of. it's a pain in the butt, but really your only option. maybe you could try to hunt this person down and tell her to stop it. but you may not find her, and even then, you may not convince her to use her own phone #.
