...where to go? My puppy walks around in circles before finally going. Sometimes, even as badly as she's gotta go, she will go round and round for maybe 5 minutes. What makes that perfect spot???

They're trying to find a well-traveled spot where dogs have been recently. It's instinctive to them to mark their territory, and they want to make sure other dogs find their mark, even if they don't have the deed to the property.

it's an instinct thing from long ago, they circle to make sure nothing bad is gonna get em.
