i nvr really thought about it but i guess its just quicker than saying ur welcome. some times i either say no problem or ur welcome. it all just depends on the mood im in i guess. and some r just really rude and only helped to make them selves look better in the eye of the public and some just like saying that i guess.

Not all Americans. There are over three hundred million Americans. I have a feeling that they say a variety of different things. Some of them choose to say "uh hm" over "you're welcome" because they chose to say it. What does it matter?

Perhaps it's not Americans as a whole (as it is common place in my area to say thank you, you're welcome, bless you, excuse me....ect..) But perhaps it is your immediate vicinity. Some towns, neighborhoods, or locations are less friendly and courteous than others. Perhaps it is where you line and not "Americans in general"
I have noticed that the youth tend to be less courteous.

I find that I do say "no problem" intsead of "you're welcome."
rather the same, just cultural, I suppose.

i feel a little wierd sayin it i dont know why i just do so i just say no problem which is pretty much the same thing. now if someone holds the door open for someone else and that person says thnk you, i dont say ur welcome i just say mhmm... im not sure y
