It depends on what you mean by "Switching between
operating systems". If you simply want to be able
to have rapid access to two desktops, one from each
O/S, you could access a REMOTE desktop from
another machine with something like VNC or
Microsoft's terminal or some such.

However, you probably mean that you want both
operating systems running on the same computer
hardware. You can do this by running virtual
machines. The easiest way to do this would probably
be to grab a copy of VMWare's "Virtual Server" and
install it on top of the OS that is already installed.

When you run it, it will allow you to install another
O/S as a virtual machine - and then using one or
two key strokes switch back and forth between
both as one runs on another.

Check out http://www.vmware.com .

The company sells virtualization products, but
the "Vmware server" is available for free.

for information worth 40 gb of area u can placed the guidance from ur present day vista tension(often C tension) and placed them in the different tension. d,e etc while switching to different OS , purely format the C tension and instal the win Xp in C tension. for this reason ur different drives wont be touched and the guidance stay secure. If u think of thats risky. attempt any lower back up application which will backthem up n compress them rapidly and it will help shrink that 40gb information into some thing decrease now place it in any exterior storage like exterior tricky disk or if u have stable information superhighway velocity then u would use on line storage to save ur information securely. google out for them, there are a number of

i would say there is no easy option to switch between operating systems so easily you have to go for reboot only

I dont't think so, you would have to stop running one O.S. then boot the other one. I know they made an OS loader that allows boot time OS selection. Look it up on Google.
