my friend took the morning after pill over 24 hours after she had the scare. She said the box indicated it can be taken up to 72 after. Now she tested positive on the EPT home pregnancy test.

The morning-after pill is just a high dose of birth control hormones. A HPT tests for the hormone HCG, which is only secreted in the urine of pregnant women. The morning-after pill does not contain HCG and would not cause HCG to be present in the urine.

They say the morning-after pill will not terminate an existing pregnancy. If she concieved and the embryo implanted before she took the pill, it would not affect the embryo. If she got the positive pregnancy test 10-14 days after taking the morning-after pill, then that must be what happened. If she took the HPT and got a positive less than 10 days after taking the pill, then she got pregnant from a previous act of intercourse, not the one she took the pill after, and she was already pregnant when she had unprotected intercourse that time.

Nothing is 100% effective. Just as condoms can fail, or a woman with an IUD could still get pregnant, the morning-after pill is not 100% effective either.

your friend should probably have a doc check it out. EPT checks for a hormone (Human Chorionic Gonadotropic hormone) which is only present in the blood and urine of individuals that are pregnant. There are some fertility drugs that can alter the results, but I am assuming that your friend is not taking fertility drugs since she used the morning after pill. Even though, having the EPT show positive after taking the morning after pill concerns me ... I would go to the doctor.

A home pregnancy test detects the pregnancy hormone found in the urine of pregnant women.
Taking the morning after pill wouldn't affect the result.
If she has a positive result she is more than likely pregnant, and needs to go and see her GP asap to decide where she goes from here.
Good Luck.

No - the morning after pill is just a strong dose of birth control pills. No HCG in it - which is what a pregnancy test looks for.

Morning after pills are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy, so she COULD still be pregnant.

You could have been pregnant from already- I would go to your dr, to check- the morning after pill can do 2 things- either stop implantation or cause an already implanted fetus to abort. You should check for a etopic pregnancy as well-

You should have tested before you took the pill...go to your doctor right away....Even if it was 24 hours after she had a scare...she wouldn't be able to tell that fast. GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!! She might have been preggers before her scare.

the morning after pill has to be used before 2 days....so if your friend took the pill before two days she should be fine...becuase the morning after pill has strong chemicals it could definitly mess up the pregnany test...but the best idea would be to go to a free clinic and make sure..she could always google the closest one to your area..she really should go and make sure just in case..............

I hope she enjoys being a mommy. She is pregnant. Why do people not realize they need to use protection?
