First of all, if it is a deep, or very long cut, you would want to go to your local emergency room to have it seen and possibly have stitches. If that is not necessary, I would wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. Antibiotic ointment is usually not necessary unless the area becomes reddened. Your body can heal the area most of the time without them. I would keep the area dry and covered with a clean dry gauze. Check the area daily and watch for signs and symptoms of infection such as redness, increasing soreness, swelling, and drainage from the wound. If these occur, then you should call your family doctor for treatment. Also if you have not had a tetanus booster within the last 7 years, you will need one.

If your blades are rusted you should go to the hospital. Just dab some peroxide on the cut, then bandage it up.

Apply direct pressure to the wound until bleeding stops. Clean the wound thouroughly with warm soapy water. Use an antiseptic and bandage or band-aid. If bleeding doesn't stop, please see a physician.

Make sure to disinfect it well with peroxide or alcohal. Also, if it is a big gash, you may need stiches to lessen scarring and lessen chances for infection.
