One of the best contraceptives in my opinion as a woman and a nurse is the Mirena coil. It has the same effectiveness rate a sterilization and also periods for most patients grind to a halt or are only a few times a year. The seven years I had it in place were brilliant! My periods only came perhaps four times a year at most but there were a number of years that I didnt have a single one. When I did they were very light ( panty liner only) and lasted a day so not exactly cumbersome. Also the mirena contains less hormone than any other (hormonal contraceptive) as the actual hormone is directed in the place where it is require ie the uterus and not having to be passed through the blood system and filtered by the kidneys. The only reason I had it removed was to start a family. My partner now husband could NOT feel the strings during intercourse ( a common concern) and the only down side I ever had was doctors insisting on pregnancy tests if I was ever ill LOL

You have several options that all consist of the same method. Most birth controls you go on, you can use them to stop your period. For example, if you are on the pill and don't want to have a period, just continue with another pack instead of taking the sugar pills. You can also do this with the Nuva Ring. Just don't take a break and your body will not have periods. There is another injectable but I haven't heared too much about it lately. It is a shot you must receive every month (less convienent that once every 3 months). Good Luck!

Maybe have your tubes tied. Other than that, There is the pill, the patch and the ring and you get your period with all of them. You might be able to not get your period with the ring or the patch if you continuously use them instead of going off them for 1 week like you're suppose to. I don't know why you wouldn't want to get your periods. I'd be nervous I was pregnant all the time without mine. Also most ob/gyn docs arent letting anyone on the patch anymore because people have gotten blood clots from them and they arent as safe as we thought. And the pill seems to be less effective. The ring is the best choice, just my opinion, but I think most the docs would agree with me.

If you really want to stop your periods permanently, you could look into endometrial ablation or hysterectomy. These may be hard to get if you are below a certain age, but they do mean *no* periods. And of course, no babies... ever.
If you're not ready to make the leap to surgery, then I'd suggest you try the birth control pill Seasonale, or another monophasic pill taken continuously. These provide a continuous dose of hormones, so that you don't get a monthly period... you only bleed when you stop taking them. Your doc can prescribe both of these, and you should ask him/her if they are safe for you.

if you were having these injections for 11 years because you didnt want children but can have them then i think thats very sad! once you have your period you just get used to it and the methods of protection that you use. how old are you? if you are positive about never having any children, then i suggest that you seek information about stoping your periods permently(nt sure what its called at the mo, sorry) so that you'll never have a period again, or children for that matter!
i dont agree with you decision to stop your periods like you did for so long, its not natural, and although some of us would like our periods to be gone for a while, i think it would be quite hard without them! as yoy get kinda attached to them each month! good luck for the future.

There is no contraception that will stop your period. Your best option is seasonal birth control that lets you have just 4 periods a year.

I am on the nuvaring...it is convenient and you only have to change it every 3 weeks. I usually onlyhave light period for a day or so. It is the lightest that I have ever had a period with any kind of birth control.

I was put onto the oral mini pill which is taken all through the month and is supposed to stop your periods. It did not have the desired effect on me, however, I know that it has worked on others.
