I live in Vegas and i deal poker full time. The rule is that cards speak for themselves, so if you miss called the hand that is OK. I had one situation where the last two players were in the hand and the first player showed a two pair and the other player said he only had top pair and turned his hand over, you are trained as a dealer to always look at the cards of all players to make sure who has the winning hand and to push up the winning hand on the board. I saw that the loser had a flush he did not see, i pushed the pot to the player with the flush and explained that the cards speak for themselves.

In general, "cards talk", that means if you show down your hand, the dealer should award the pot to the best hand shown, regardless of what the player declared it as.
So, if you have a full house, and call it as 2 pair, it would be treated as a full house UNLESS you thought you had two pair and discarded your hand into the muck. Note that in most places, even if you throw a winning hand face-up into the muck, it is still dead.
It is the dealer's job to pay off the winning hand, but sometimes other people will correct a player or a dealer. Usually the other player in the showdown, whose hand is now a loser, will get angry at whoever corrects the mistake, especially if it is a player who is not involved in the hand.

None of what you say matters... The dealer in any casino is going to give the pot to the winner. In my home game we all pay attention to what everyone has and we also give the pot to the best hand even if they didn't know they won.

Shari is right, the cards speak. You can correct your own mistake, or the dealer/other players can. Don't muck until you're absolutely sure your hand is no good.

You play the cards! If you have a royal flush and you say you have a straight, you still have a royal flush. The cards decide...verbal declarations are meaningless.
