Someone will have to collect the monies to pay for the last six years of Republican control and spending and Bush's folly in Iraq.
The money is already borrowed, mostly from China, and like a credit card bill, the debt will HAVE to be repaid, or the US will be forced into bankruptcy.
A wise person would be more concerned about how much more Bush will spend on his Bank of China MasterCard, and what happens when he reaches our credit limit before the war is over.
Between non-income taxes, State, County and city taxes, fees, and other charges on our phone and utility bills, we are probably a lot closer to your figure than most think.
The only difference between the two parties is the Democrats want to spend on the poor and protect the consumer, and the Republicans want to give to the rich, and empower large corporations over the average consumer.

Democrats want to punish people for being successful. The mores stuff you own the more money you owe them. The thing with this is that it only hurts the middle class. The Rich people can load their accounts into tax free zones and the poor just suckle off the teat of the US government. The middle class will be paying for Universal Health Care, not the rich or poor.

What does it matter if Billions of tax dollars are headed towards the destroying of a country? They are equally as bad.

what the hell are you talking about, 70%!
40% for the few that can earn enough money to pay that much, but 70%, that's a stupid figure! nearly a stupid as your question.
Most people pay 22% and that only for the stuff they earn over £5k (that's about $9k tax free!)
well its better than having anyone earning over £100k not paying tax on their earning over £50k, that would be a 'tax break' American style!

I think the real question is not how much will we get taxed but "when are we going to see a return on our money?"
