She MUST tell the DSS and the local council (if she recieves housing benefit, she will also recieve council tax benefit, which is dealt with by the council). Provided she can prove that she is going for that reason, there should be no problem, although the DSS/council may question why it has to be for so long.

She will lose her income support - especially if this is paid due to unemployment - for that period, but shouldn't lose housing or council tax benefits. If the income support is paid for another reason (such as disability), she may not lose it. Also, if going to Europe, the rules are slightly different and she may not lose her benefit.

She must explain everything to the DSS - they can advise her better than I can, and not doing so could cause them to invalidate her claim completely.

Tell her good luck from me.

I informed the DSS about going abroad and my money was automatically stopped. My friend thought differently and didn't tell them and he received his money as normal with no questions asked later on. If I was ever in the same position again I would not say anything.

She will lose her benefits...and will probably get into trouble. You're not supposed to go on holiday really-they see it as if you're able to go on holiday then you're able to work. They will investigate her and give her one hell of a rough time if she goes!! If she goes without telling them and they find out she can get prosecuted for a fraudulant claim of benefits.

i think if you leave the country full stop you lose your benifits immediatley,if her money is paid directly into the bank which they are all now and she does not have to go sign on for work she should say nothing and just go her money will be paid as usual and she will lose nothing
