There are 640 acres in a SQUARE mile. It is meaningless to talk about the number of acres in a mile, because an acre is a unit of area while a mile is a unit of length. You can only compare units that have the same dimension, such as acres and square miles, which both have a dimension of area, or length squared.

1 acre (US survey) = 0.001562506 square mile

There are no acres in a mile as a mile is a linear measurement while an acre is a volumetric measurement. If you're talking about how many acres are in a square mile then:

1 square mile (US survey) = 640 acre (US survey)

I guess you can think of it as taking a mile length and asking how many times you can run in around inside an acre square. ;) Breaking it down to a common denominator, ( sort of0 an acre is 43, 560 sq. feet. A mile is 5,280 feet long. So if you can picture wraping the that inside your square acre, there you go. However, not may of us have perfectly square acreage. I have 16 and the majority of it is frontal and ends up at a point of the back of the property thus making it a triangle. I think we just hit a grey areaa in math. ;)

An acre is a unit of area. A mile is a unit of distance. It's like asking how many gallons of water are in a foot.

An acre is a measurement of area, a mile is a measurement of distance. You can't compare the 2.

not applicable as a comparison as an Acre is a measure of area, and a mile is a measure of length, so there can be no answer to the question you have put.
