I am also a science fiction writer and as the competition I cannot divulge to you any of my story plans. However I will suggest to you that the best way to write any story is to create for yourself an outline containing a beginning a middle and an end. Then use this outline to write your story. This is a useful tool for the beginner and can be helpful for almost any writing application. Another hint would be to write for yourself, not for anyone else. Write what you like, or what you would like to read, to do otherwise would put too much pressure on you to produce, and creating a mental block that can discourage you. Good luck.

Try the link from the Arizona Writer's Workshop. I personally love science fiction that is believable, not so futuristic that I can't see the possibilities close by, or at least that the author has adequately explained.

Hmmm, you don't seem that prepared. I'm a big fan of SF stories with some unique twist, like set in the future which isn't fantastical but more an extension of our own (sorta like the movie I, Robot or Bladerunner). Just take current experimental ideas and expand on them.

magic
strange ideas (most not used before):
- people being born old and dying as infants
- ppl being like stars, existing in dif. time periods but still being able to see each other when otheres are dead
- dead ppl living on earth in a daminsion alive ppl can not sea
- we are each alone and what we see is fake (im in my house right now soo maybe it doesnt exist and im just imaging everything and im the only one, my dog is a figment of my imagination along with my parents, friends, and house / everything besides the actual me)
- all objects are alive we just have trouble comunicationg with them and maybe they are dead ppls souls
theres lots of fun stuff you can come up with
(its amazing what a bunch of bored with life teens at a lunch table can come up with :))
ps. if u use any of these ideas that r'ent common let me no

A machine that can read the mind and capture and relay the unspoken thoughts of persons. The possibilities are endless but may be the most exciting will be for a detective to track down criminals.

What makes you think anyone wants to read your brand of wisdom or humor? It would be more appropriate to write real estate ads. at least you would get paid for those.
