Violence is a part of our make up, it is an instinct to fight when cornered. Being cornered can mean a lot of things though. It can be the physical fact most people think of, being backed into a corner by an aggressor.

But what about the mental corners? We can be backed into those too. Is it a natural instinct to lash out when mentally cornered too? I think so.

This is where we see the difference between a human and an animal. We do not have to react to being attacked in a violent fashion if it is not appropriate and most of the time we don't. However, that is a conditioned response. Society, our environment has conditioned us to respond by means other than physical violence. Now we have other, less direct means of violence such as the legal system. The courts are no more than a formalized forum for combat, as is the sports field.

So, I think that while violence is inherent in our nature, it can and usually is redirected.

I think it's natural to feel violent in certain situations eg watching a family member being beaten up makes you feel like retaliating with violence. I think children are becoming so desensitized to violence through TV and maybe seeing it go on so much in the neighbourhood they live in, that it isn't only used as a last resort and so is more readily expressed.

years ago humans worked out their aggresion with, well work. We did physical labor. We farmed, we built cars. Now there is less physical labor jobs out there. We are also ingesting so many chemicals in our food, in our drinks, in the air we breath. All of that has to have some effect. Add in overpopulation and more people out of work and you get a snowball effect. Violence is just a manifestation of our emotions. It works itself out in a means that allows our emotional tank to run off the excess. Is it right, NO. But it is part of what we are as a race. It isn't limited to nationality or religion, or color of our skin. It is deep within us all. Some of us have the ability to reroute that emotion and put it out in other ways, some do not.
