For the early South, their economy was dependent on it... but I'll tell you something no one seems to talk about: Our abolishment of slavery put to an end a practice that was at least 3000 years old. Slavery had been a part of human culture since the dawn of civilization, and every ethnicity was subject to it at some point. We were the first to say openly that it was not okay anymore and forbidden henceforth.

Racism in America lasted the majority of the history of the US. Only the past 40 years have been free from legal racism, but undoubtedly social racism persists.

It showed that we participated in a vulgar and disgusting practice... just like ever other people in history.

such as the Egyptians and Jews
The Romans, and everybody they defeated.
The Spanish, French, English, and the others that first settled the Americas and forced the natives and the Africans to be slaves.

who's culture are you referring to?
If you are Egyptian, it is presumed that slaves did the agricultural work along with the major building projects.
