I don't know if you can just buy PowerPoint without buying the whole suite, including MS Word. However, there is a very good free alternative, Open Office that has a version of PowerPoint, and it's free, yeah. When you save your file, you will have to choose PowerPoint from the drop down list of file types. Mind you it won't be the latest greatest edition, I think PowerPoint 96 or 97, but it's free. Incidentally Open Office comes with a version of Word, Excel. Chow

Nicholas is right. Go to www.openoffice.org and you can download their program for free.
It is completely compatible with MS Power Point. We use the open office version here at our company and we love it. We can open/create/edit/save presentations in the MS Power Point format so our clients that have MS Power Point can easily view the presentation. They have no idea that the presentation was not created in MS Power Point.
It's worth a few minutes to go to their website and check it out.
