The rest of the band were tired of recording the same old tired out theme of going insane, the already recorded 3 albums on the subject and wanted different directions.

He proclaimed that the band had dissolved due to irreconcilable differences. The band apparently split up in 1985, but Gilmour and Mason revived it without Waters and Wright in 1986.

He and Gilmour just could not get on. As with many great bands, conflicting ego's of the songwriters led to break ups. Van Halen, Guns N Roses, The Who (Townshend and Daltrey didnt get on but kept it together).

It's beacuse Roger and David Gilmour couldn't get along anymore after working together for so many years....

because he had the rights to most of the songs, and no longer wanted to have to mess with the rest of the band..

I think he just left because he was too busy with all of his solo stuff.

he was being a cocky bastard and wanted to take their music into the new era by incorporating punk and new wave influences. everyone said, no way jose.
