Hi you all;
I'm moving to Adelaide soon, and I'm interested whether A$40k annually is enough for a single professional or I'll have to be tight around the budget? How much does an average single person need for a fair living here?

Thanks for answers

We have friends in Adelaide who tell us that they live quite comfortably on 22K a year, excluding their mortgage payment and their new car. We have looked at houses in Adelaide, and frankly, I think they are a bit pricey right now. If you want a three bedroom house in a desirable neighborhood, you will pay well over 250K for a reasonable property. Rents are reasonable, but a lot of the rentals we saw in Adelaide were in less desirable neighborhooods, and were a bit trashy. Good luck! Hope you find a nice place to settle and things go well for you

Is that before or after tax? That makes a difference. Your biggest expense is going to be accommodation whether you are renting or buying. I would check rental prices in the Adelaide Advertiser on a Saturday. It is online. Will you be using public transport, which is good, or driving to and from work? Petrol is around $1.20 a litre at the moment. Fresh food is not expensive. If you are doing your own cooking you should be able to eat well on $100 to $150 a week depending on your tastes and preferences.

Adelaide is a beautiful place with mostly friendly people. If you are planning on renting there are nice places at reasonable prices. From personal experience I would tend to go private rental however you can also check out the realestate website to check either places for sale or rent with pictures. Food for a single person if you shop around you can easily get by on $100 or so per week. Go shopping at the markets for well priced vegetables and fruit and meat.
