I've bought a nice, new adjustable lamp with a 60-watt tolerance socket and put it in my bathroom with a 250-watt heat lamp, to dry up moisture at times...now does the 60-watt limit on the socket really mean anything? I've tried it a few days, and no problems occurred yet, but is it urgent for me to get a 250-watt tolerant lamp? Are these even available? They're probably expensive.

The rating on the socket is there for a reason. Yours is working fine for now but will dry out (from heat), become flamable, and eventually start a fire. The difference between ratings is all about what the socket is made of and it's ability to resist heat build-up, failure and fire. Get the right one and change it out of your lamp. Check out the wiring of the lamp too, just to be sure.

You need a lamp that is rated for 250 watts, the wiring and the socket. Those ratings are there for a reason. You are creating a fire hazard. I hope this is in your own home and not an apartment building.

They might be expensive, but cheaper than fixing your house after a fire, which is what will happen if you continue this practice. 60 watts is the limit for this lamp, and should not be exceeded. It may not be the socket that fails. It will most likely cause the lamp cord to overheat, melting the insulation layer, and causing a fire.

lights fixtures are a humorous concern. warmth is the main killer on those issues or maybe once you reside interior of specifications for the bulbs they might rapidly become worse. Fan lights and inexpensive enclosed fixtures are infamous for this. CFLs placed off warmth additionally. So reckoning on the fixture it could or might no longer be secure. you have put in an adapter to circulate from one bulb to 2? what's the adapter rated for? i do no longer propose doing this. comparable is going for human beings that use the opening adapters on lights fixtures. purely dont do it. I many times see fan lights fixtures use up from utilizing the max watt bulbs. Many low priced lights fixtures do the comparable. ordinarily do to the warmth which could no longer get away and adverse fixture high quality. You used to have the skill to place a three hundred watt easy bulb in a porcelain fixture. however the primary of alot of the products available I wouldnt placed a fifteen watt bulb in it. every time you smash down the fixtures easy socket or wiring you danger a hearth. Now whilst you're doing this in an previous porcelain i might say purely purchase a unmarried massive bulb. CFLs are obtainable in 200watt or maybe larger in case you will locate them. 200w CFL makes use of approximately 65watts itself.100w makes use of approximately 23watts and 60 makes use of approximately 13watts. each physique varies particularly reckoning on producer and layout. purely unsure what you recommend by utilizing Y splitter. ought to recommend a fixture with 3 lamp holders in a Y configuration or a Y splitter that turns a unmarried bulb right into a 2 bulb fixture. if it is the three lampholders you're nice. each and each holder is rated for the 60watts that this is marked as. if it is the splitter subject i might stay faraway from it if obtainable.
