with the half track it was possible to use the advantage of a track = high track ion on all kinds of ground and good distribution of the weight of the vehicle and also the easy steering of a truck( compared to a track vehicle )

A half track isn't always armored ( the American M 3 yes ) but the Germans had a withe range of half tracks going from the light kettenkrad until the massive Famo 18t used of collecting the broken down armour in the fields
The armored half tracks of the Germans the 250 ans 251 where build onto the chassis of the a standard half track and they where build in many different versions for different use

The halftrack was armored and didnt easily get stuck. Also, because of it's strength it could be better armed then a jeep. And another thing: The halftrack was a Combat vehicle and the Jeep transported people. Their purposes were entirely different.
