It was becuase it was deemed to be racist because of the white men painting their faces black with big white lips. However Al Jonson used this as a form of theatrical device at the time the minstrel show was invented and was a form of good entertainment with singing and dancing. A famous song was 'Mammy' sort sung in a southern drawl and he wore white gloves before Micheal Jackson.

in case they upset black people apparently! I don't think it would do as no way did they take the mickey out of any race. I don't think they even do a stage show now do they? I used to have a friend who was in the show but have lost touch with her. If anyone knows how to contact one of the old cast I'd be grateful. Already tried Friends reunited.

In its hey day it was one of the most watched variety shows however today it just would not work.
A lot of people would be highly offended i never saw the appeal and as a child banished from room so gran could watch it in piece. lol
