-always practice every single day.
-dont let your "virgin" fingers stop you. the hurting is normal when you first try to play it.
-its always good to have some friends who also know how to play the guitar as well.
-and try to record yourself when you play, and see if you sound good. cause it sounds different when you play it live and when you hear it afterwards.

Well, aside from the lessons and all, just pick it up and play it. And keep playing it. That's what I did when I first started playing a long time ago. I would try to reproduce every sound I heard. I copied finger positions in music videos on television. I got involved with other guitarists at my skill level and we all learned a lot from each other. Just experiment with it. Do whatever you want. That's the sort of stuff that will help you develop your style as your learning to play. Have fun with it.

hi there.
i learned by going for guitar classes for 3 months. the dude taught me the chords, how to read tabs and basically got the feel of how to pluck and strum a guitar. then once you get the basics down, go to sites like www.ultimate-guitar.com and find some songs you personally like to listen to (this makes the learning more fun plus you can show off to your friends :D) and learn the chords.
with enough practice, and listening to music tracks for their beat and tempo, you'll be able to pick it up :) it's not too hard. good luck!

Pay for lessons. You can try on your own but the discipline and experience are not there. Lessons are the way to go.
