Well, like you said the Doppler usually picks up around 21weeks. When you heard the heart beat the baby could have been turned "just right" and now maybe it is turned in a different direction. If I were you I would call my Dr., just to be on the safe side, because if you are stressed about this, the baby will feel the effects. Always err on the side of caution.

Did you try moving the doppler to every angle and position known on your stomach? If you haven't, try it. Remember he/she can be in a position that is hard to pick up the heartbeat. Give it a few minutes. If nothing, maybe call your Doctor or Midwife to confirm the situation and see what he/she thinks you should do. Good luck, and try to not use that doppler too much. It does release a minimal of waves but over time, don't be surprised if it could hurt your baby. Just do it when you feel you should. Not just for fun.

At 15 weeks there's a lot of space in there for your baby to float around, it could well be that your baby is just in hiding (it is a lot bigger than the 1-2 inches quoted by someone above however!! More like about 5 inches, or the size of an avocado)
Get a professional doctor or midwife to show you how to use it more effectively.
It also depends on the effectiveness of your doppler, and if you are using the same doppler.

I too have a Doppler, I use at home. It's the same as the one they use at my doctors office. Those things are very testy. I wouldn't give it another thought. Try again in a few days. Doppler's are nice to have, as long as you do not rely on them for reassurance. I remember with my last son, at 35 weeks pregnant, at the doctors office, the heartbeat was faint. Not because anything was wrong. It's just the position of the baby and those Doppler's aren't perfect. :) You are fine. If you check again in a few days and you don't hear anything...maybe you could call the RN at your doctors office. I bet all is well. Good luck! And congrats!

If they can't hear it very well they may opt to do an ultrasound. Well, they did me anyway. It is normal not to hear a heartbeat by doppler. I saw the heartbeat and was very happy when I didn't just hear the heartbeat but I saw it as well. That was at 10 weeks pregnant. Congrats.
Also, I thought you meant at doctors office, but anyway, if it was a home doppler then you may not hear it for a few more weeks yet.
16 weeks and 5 days.

I'm sure the baby's just shifted. It's still really hard at that stage to find the heartbeat. My good friend lost her baby to a cord accident at 38 wks and considered renting a hospital grade doppler when she was pregnant with her next child but chose not to because she said that everytime she couldn't find the heartbeat, she knows she'd freak out.

What you probably heard before was the sound of the umbilical cord. Also don't forget you little one is so small right now that it is moving around so much that you might have a hard time getting it everytime. As the baby gets older it will be easier to hear. Good luck. Remember how much the dr has to search around for the heartbeat when you are at the office.

Honey, it probably just means the baby moved but if you get worried, call your doc - do not let something like that weigh on your mind! Remember, at 16 weeks, the baby it still only about 1-2 inches long or so - and in a sac filled with fluid. I had a home doppler when I was pg with twins and it was a godsend but can also make you worry. Call your doc if you don't find the hb soon just for peace of mind, they will find it. - Linda

Your baby probably moved in the womb and thats why you can't hear the heartbeat this time, i'm sure it's nothing to worry about but you should check with a doctor just in case
