Most likely the clouds are some form of cirrus - either cirrostratus or cirrocumulus, but they could also be orographically generated such as mountain wave clouds. In any event, the above site will be of help to you.

Go to your local airport meteorlogical forecast. They regularly give the type of cloud and the ceiling.
