In addition to the other correct answers concerning botulism, persons who are susceptible to allergies could develop a serious reaction to the spores and subsequent pollens found in honey. Possible allergic reaction is also one of the reasons that you should not give a child under 12 months real-fruit based jams or jellies, cow's milk, or peanuts/peanut products.

Raw honey can contain small amounts of the botulism bacteria. While the amount is small enough that it won't affect a child over the age of one year old, in an infant, the body is not mature enough to handle this small dose.

All honey has botulism spores in it, and at under 1 year old, the body doesn't have a long enough digestive tract for there to be enough change in PH to kill them.

Because there is traces of botulism in honey. It will not hurt you if your digestive tract is developed to digest it. This is usually over the age of 1 year.
