I'm wondering if oil field transportation rules fall under the same rules applied by the province of Alberta or do they have their own rules? I know that if a company only operates in Alberta they are regulated under the province but does that also mean that the drivers can work more hours as well. Also, do most oil field drivers get overtime after about 40 hours a week or does it vary a lot from company to company?/?

I can't answer all of your questions, but I have discovered that if your the company you are working for has it's head office in the province, you as a driver fall under provincial rules so long as your driving doesn't talk you out of the province. Typically this means you can drive the regulated number of hours per day, but you can go 7 days a week. I know for a fact that some drivers and companies are getting around this, but I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how they are doing it....legally
