Wembley always will be, and has been, the home of football. The name conjures up so many memories that it will always have a place in our history.
People overseas will always think of the name "Wembley" as being very special irrespective, of the fact that it is a new stadium.

The first part of this question has been answered well enough, as for the semi finals. It was never the FA's intention to play them there. The venue was always one of a dozen stadiums chosen for size and their roughly neutral distance between the two participating teams. Two events made this more difficult...1st the Hillsborough disaster exposed the decaying nature of England's Edwardian stadiums. The resultant Taylor report called for all seater stadia which vastly reduced the capacity of most stadiums overnight. Second was the events of the 1993 semi finals. When Spurs were drawn to take on Arsenal there just wasn't any other choice but Wembley, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge wasn't remotely close to the top quality stadium it is today and wasn't suitable. The other semi final involved the two Sheffield clubs {oh how times have changed eh} Needless to say they wanted a day out at Wembley too and the FA agreed. Once the precident had been set it was hard to turn down requests from future semi finalists although it is likely that the FA will try and avoid using Wembley for semis in future and will place them in Cardiff, Manchester and Arsenal, along with any other stadia that hit the 60,000 capacity mark.
