It is so obvious in theoretical/logical terms that there will certainly come a time when all people will look back to some 'ancient' times and think:"Man, those people back in those ancient years of 21st century were really mad thinking and obsessing them selves with religion, god, and stuff, when they could spend all their time and energy to much more practical things and contribute to society in a better way".
I mean we've all seen movies where people are faced with an outer space inteligence life forms, and so often the main conclusion is that mankind is simply NOT ready yet !
There will be millions of people thinking:"OH MY GOD, the end has come! We should destroy them! ... just watch "Contact" with Jodie Foster.
So my question is, do you people think that there will come a time when mankind won't even have a clue about religion, and theoretically when will that time come, after which events?
And please don't give any 'religious' answers.

I really don't like any religous answers. It just proves the point of my question!
So please give more scientific answers (take Sarah's answer for example)

Well, putting all movies aside.. Sadly, people just are to eager to trust something they know nothing about(religion) Or hide behind everything with religion.. And unless people stop feeding beliefs down every vulnerable person's throat then i don't see religion completely going away for a really long time. Unless someone can prove them wrong with facts. Hopefully people just get alot smarter. Yeah this answer didn't make much sense. hahah

the christians and other religions contribute nearly all there is to this world, the statement that they could contribute more leaves me wondering what people are contributing if not them, the obvious as you see it doesnt exist, spending their time and energy to what practical things you have mentioned could perhaps leave you alone in the world a sad place to be i am sure, the movies you mention are movies made up from mans imagination, theoretically the time will not come,no God will always be here

Personally, I really hope that day will come.

But I dont think it will. There are so many people out there, granted not as many as there used to be, that will believe in some form of god until the day they die, and they will pass on their belief to their next generations.

People need faith, they need to know that there is a nice floating cloud waiting for them after they die. Or what is the point of life? As a race we're not ready to except that there is nothing.. People need to make themselves bigger, they need to give themselves importance. and the only way to do this, is to believe that there is some master plan that only gets revieled to us when we die.

People need faith, people need a reason to live. that reason unfortunatly is religion.

that time will never come for the reasons that man needs religion in his life to support his feeling of imperfetions and longing for fullfillment of the feeling of being perfect and happy, what will happen is that they will incorporate the science/technologies and religion to create a world of perfection according to whatever it is that they will be needing to satisfy their want and dreams.

No. Science and technology do not have all the answers to all our questions. Religion provides people with answers to very difficult questions.
