you could buy a pack of stencils, and acrylic paint, with a fabric medium, mixed in before applying to the t-shirt.(just follow the directions on the ratio of paint to medium)
you will need to place a paper sack behind where you are working so it doesn't bleed through, allow to dry for 24 hours between coats, or just make sure the first coat is thick and covers thoroughly. Had good luck with these in the past.
Blessings!

Go to a crafts store and they sell fabric paint, use a few layers of it so that it will be thick an dthey also should sell a sealer that will keep it from cracking when washed. Also best bet if you want a quality look is to print out stencils so it looks neat and even.

I have bought many of the iron on 'decals' from Hobby Lobby and used them. They wash well and then you can pop them right in the dryer. They come out looking like new every time. Just make sure your iron is hot enough and that the stamp is NOT moved during the ironing process.

Buy a pack of iron-on transfers. You can have pictures, lettering, etc. and iron it on your t-shirt. Wash in cool/cold water to minimize fading of bright colors.

Well, you can iron them on! Go to your nearest hobby or arts and crats store and they have precut letters and numbers you can just iron on. They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors too! :)
