Yes, the type of toilet you describe is available. Also, you can purchase an extension which bolts between the top of the toilet and the seat/lid. I recxently did, they cost from $20.00 to $60.00 depending on several things. mine was $22.00 and it is not the elongated type. I had hip surgery and was not able to use the low seat. This type extension can be installed in a few minutes by almost anyone. I got it at Rite Aid, Many drug/dept. stores carry them.

I recently saw an extender that goes under the toilet, thus lifting whatever type is on top.

Go to the supply house and ask about handicapped toilets. That's what the tall ones are.
