Because if it is, its called "arepas", and is different, this is from Colombia.

But if you are talking about this one http://www.saboresdelperu.com/entradas/tamales_maizblanco.htm well, we call this "tamales".

Well, I have never eaten, seen or heard of corn meal pancakes in peru, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. there are very thin breads made of corn (or "flatter" breads) that are popular in certain parts of the andes (ayacucho, apurimac).
