It depends on what scares you. It's not a "jump out and say boo" film. However, the thought of sick perverts holding live snuff sessions in secret locations, is frightening.
In reality, If you had been kidnapped and someone was about to drill your eyeball out of your head for pleasure, I highly doubt you'd be hollering "Oh, cool! I lov this and I'm not scared!"

When it came out it appeared to be a hiding, people chasing you
pit of your stomach lump in your throat horror,
In reality it was yet another movie making an attempt at
pop gore shock value . Messing with the eye or torture
cutting off a head while you thought they got away.
They lately substitute pop gore for a solid story line
The director knows how far to take it and stops before
it hits that line that would take it from an "R" rating to an "X"
or unrated.
Then a few month later you buy it on DVD and a couple of
weeks later they release an unrated special edition.
That's whats wrong with movies today.
Loved the movie not scary though.

I was really looking forward to Hostel, but it was more like "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalow" than a horror film. I don't mind humor in horror, but this film stretched its limits. (e.g. bubble gum gang)
The film had a little bit of suspense, but as far as scares, it really lacked in that department, as well as its supposed "gore factor". The burning eyeball was more humorous than horrendous, and our first real "sit-down victim" has his ankles cut. Ooo! Kind of lame.
Once it turns into a revenge film, the plot stretches itself way beyond any level of believability. Everything for the hero becomes way too convienient, while some of the characters and their actions are just stupid and pointless. If this film had any scary moments, the stupid parts erase it completely.
If you want a gore-flick with its share of humor and scares, check out Feast!

I was excited for this movie until I saw it. It was so totally pointless and overhyped, and I'm irritated that they're making a sequel. You can tell some lame college dude wrote it who spent some time in Amsterdam. I hated the main characters so I was kind of glad they were getting tortured. Stick to High Tension or Saw... but only the first one.

It wasn't even remotely close to what it could have been. I was disappointed with the lack of goriness. They could have done a better job at displaying more pain and more blood. Nothing about that movie scared me...I hope part two is better!

The only part that was scary is thinking what would happen if something like this happened to you. Otherwise, it was a gory film.
