We can recognise a situation here about me being in the woods in a dark night and 'something moving amongst trees'. The dilemma of the situation is that of my doubtfulness about a possible danger lurking in the dark and my friend's certainty that it is there. It will be unwise for me to ignore what my friend can see just because I cannot, for if I cannot perceive a danger does not prove that my friend is wrong; and on the other hand my friend’s ability to see something does not automatically mean that I am wrong either in seeing only what is actually there.
It is only by taking into account both point-of-views as valid and equal in significance can lead us along the way to find a solution to our dilemma, but the irony of the situation is that soon as we consider both point-of-views equally credible and valid we are in a deadlock situation: shall we run, shall we part, or shall we carry on, we cannot decide. And none of us can agree with the other as or each of us is convinced in our own version of reality, and at the same time now of us can disregard what other can see, and none of us can be certain that what is being seen is all that is there.
Now, if I take this to a deeper level within human mind to a point where human instinct reigns and logic resigns, I should see that my inability to see a danger, further adds to my fear of the unknown, as I should most naturally anticipate in the thick of the wood in the middle of a night, this fear then augmented by friend’s apprehensions and convincing, will eventually get the better of me. My own sense of danger will be accentuated and reinforced, unable to see my imagination will gear up to run riots in my mind, and the voice, the voice of my own and only friend there by my side will support this panic beyond any cure, What I mean is that I will run; and unless there is something to stop me and to counter act may panic, I will run followed by my friend, and if there still some reason left in me I will run flowing my friend.
Now, you can imagine both of us, me and my friend, coming out the woods and running towards the village trying to tell you something in the way - it is most surprisingly that it is still plenty of daylight left in the open.

You are both choosing or creating your own reality as you go along.
This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.
This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.
At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.
We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.
These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.
From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.
I hope that helps to answered your question.
Love and blessings Don

I never went in the dark in the woods yet but I can say I was alone in the woods in the plain day and I thought someone was following me behind the trees and I was scared.
True this happened when I was much younger.
Later I was in the woods alone but it didn't seem so scary anymore.
It maybe just a temporary problem.

If your very scared at the time then your brain can create noises that aren't real but that doesn't explain the movement of the bushes cos your Brain only creates imaginary visions when your very tired, dehydrated or high on drugs(probably just a squirrel).

It depends on what I was dong. I been in that situation on a couple of occassions. Once while hunting. My night vision isn't all that great but I heard the movement before he saw it. It turned out to be another hunter.
Another time, we were just walking along and talking. He saw it and I didn't hear it until whatever it was went crashing thru the brush. It was just a dark shape.

What could be more fun when walking through the woods in the dark than to scare each stupid? It was probably the wind.
Or the wicked wood goblin.

I think at that point I would be running. If there's something moving and watching me that I can't see, I'd like to keep it that way by running away from the thing.

It's because it's dark and you aren't able to see in the dark...also, if you can't see it then how do you really know that it is moving?

that depends on your perspective.is the glass half full or half empty? He could very well be seeing things that others can not see. I see things all the time that others don't see.
